CIELE A PRIORITY BROOKLYN SOUTH
Dear Brooklyn South Community,
It's GREAT to return to another year in service of our wonderful multicultural, multilingual school
communities across Brooklyn South. Staying consistent with last year's priorities and expectations,
and in alignment with Chancellor’s priorities, our office will continue to prioritize evidence-based curricula
to promote literacy, numeracy, and assessment strategies by leveraging CRSE and SEL practices to ensure
ALL students have a high-quality academic experience, are college and career ready, and have a strong plan and pathway to economic security. We will continue to support the utilization of innovative strategies in service of strengthened family, community, and MWBE partnerships by leveraging CRSE and CSR. Physical and emotional safety of all students will be a significant focus as we will leverage The Moral Compass of Kindness and mind and body wellness practices to create sustainable conditions for student success and acceleration.
Together we will progress monitor with the appropriate accompanying instructional supports to ensure student success. For students to have the appropriate supports to ensure progress towards their goals, our schools will have MTSS plans in place that include clear assessment tools, as well as accompanying Tier 2 & Tier 3 literacy and numeracy interventions embedded in their programs with a specific focus on 9th graders.
We are also excited for the district-wide implementation of the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum in Algebra this fall. To support implementation, all schools will receive coaching and instructional support based on their unique needs along with direct coaching support for all Algebra teachers that will commence in September.
Our superintendency will focus on The Moral Compass of Kindness and its four pillars: Compassion, Integrity, Forgiveness, and Responsibility. I am excited about our collective efforts in this matter and the potential impact it will have on our communities as we embrace, celebrate, and strengthen cross-cultural understanding within Brooklyn South.
Lastly, each school will create and implement a robust action plan to continue to address and further decrease Chronic Absenteeism.
Our collective work will remain true to our mission of creating and sustaining equitable conditions that advance intergenerational economic mobility across all our schools.
I look forward to working with each of you as we launch a successful 2023-2024 school year.
Sincerely ,
Michael Prayor
Brooklyn South High School Superintendent
